What denomination is your church?
While the church is associated with the United Church of Christ (UCC) and American Baptist Churches (ABC), the people who attend Stratford Street United Church have varied denominational backgrounds. Regardless of your background, all are welcome.
May I receive communion?
Yes. Regardless of your religious background or affiliation, all are welcome to attend and to participate in all church activities, including communion. For communion, we serve gluten-free bread and grape juice.
What is your view on people who identify as LGBTQ+?
We believe God fully loves and embraces all of humanity, regardless of who you love or how you identify. In addition, we acknowledge that the LGBTQ+ community has been treated terribly by the Christian church, so we feel compelled to be especially welcoming and sensitive to that painful reality.
What is required for membership at SSUC?
Nothing! No class, no oath. If SSUC seems to meet your spiritual needs, you are already a member of this community. If you’re not sure, you’re still a member of this community. Either way, Pastor Abby is always happy to meet with you about ways to support feeling fully connected in our community.
How is the church funded?
The Stratford Street United Church is funded by generous donations from the congregation. All contributions, small or large, are appreciated. See Donate for more information. To help us with financial planning we encourage everyone in our faith community complete this Intentions for Consistent Giving.
Are my donations to the Stratford Street United Church tax deductible?
Yes. The Stratford Street United Church is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization.
Is there free parking?
Can I take the T? |
Yes. Street parking is plentiful. Please be sure to leave space for our neighbors to use their driveways. Or you can get to the church Monday-Saturday via the #38 bus, and a short walk from the #35, #36, and #37 buses, as well as the Bellevue and Highland commuter rail train stops. The #36 bus runs Sundays every half hour, and our closest stop is West Roxbury Parkway. Please note: local buses #35 and #37 and the Needham commuter rail do not operate on Sundays.
