What is the difference between a food pantry and a food bank? |
A "food pantry" is sometimes mistakenly called a "food bank". Most community food pantries are sponsored by local area churches (like ours) and/or community coalitions. A food pantry’s mission is to directly serve local residents facing food insecurity. Independent food pantries are self-governing and usually distribute food to their clients once-a-month. A food bank on the other hand is the storehouse for millions of pounds of food and other products that go out to the community. Food pantries function as the arms that reach out to communities directly.

Yes. We are one of many distribution arms of the Greater Boston Food Bank . We also receive donated food and goods from local supermarkets, stores, and by individuals like you. (how to donate).
