Food Pantry FAQs
In order to help people understand our mission, we've provided answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) below. If you have further questions, please submit them via the Contact Us tab on this site.
Are food banks and food pantries government organizations? |
No. Food banks and pantries are independent 501(c)(3) organizations, and are governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. However, food banks can and do participate in some government programs that help address food insecurity. These programs include Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CFSP) for seniors and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for children.

|
What are the requirements to get food from the Rose's Bounty? |
We serve Residents of West Roxbury, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, and Mattapan, as well as Veterans referred by Boston area VAs. Please bring a photo ID with you for it makes check in easier. We do ask you to share your household demographic information, because we are obligated to report back to the Greater Boston Food Bank. The required declarations can be found here.

Is a Food Pantry the same as a Food Bank? |
No. A food bank is the store house for large quantities of food and other products that will be distributed to food pantries. Food pantries are the arms that directly serve local residents facing food insecurity.
