Community > Overview
If you Google the word "community," one of the many definitions you will find is "a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals." This appropriately describes the community of Stratford Street United Church. We believe in God, but we also believe in and rely upon each other. While you can read about some of our more formal community-based activities below, it's the informal connections such as helping out with children when a parent is deployed, lending a hand when someone is moving or injured, or lending a shoulder to cry on when someone is struggling that really is what sets us apart.

Here are some of the many examples of our community in action
Meals for those in need |
We've all had tough stretches in life. Maybe that's been the death of a loved one; perhaps a complicated or difficult surgery; or even an addiction that's been hard to break free from; a divorce or a family member who gets deployed. There is so much in life that we can't control, but in the times when life harder than ever, the Stratford Street United Church community if proud to pick those people up, by frequently cooking meals for others in the community who are having a tough stretch.

Prayer shawls |
In addition to the aforementioned meals, a group of knitters at the church knits shawls that we extend to those who are having a rough time.
|
City Missions |
Every year, we do a major clothing and toy drive around Christmastime for adults and children who are less fortunate than us. In addition to buying gifts, we also spend time helping volunteer at City Missions separating and sorting donations from several contributing churches and organizations around the greater Boston area.

Sunday School/Nursery |
Every Sunday, we invite the "strong and mighty" ones (children) to participate in a portion of the service in the main sanctuary, and after a children's sermon, proceed downstairs to learn more about life as a Christian at their speed. We also have a staffed nursery for very young ones, and the sound from the service is broadcast in that room for parents who want to be part of the service, but who's little ones want them to stay with them.
