Church > FAQs
In order to help you understand our church, we've provided answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) below. If you have further questions, please submit them via the Contact Us tab on this site.
When are services offered? |
Our main weekly service is on Sunday at 10:00 AM. When religious holidays fall on weekdays, we typically have services then as well.
|
How long does the service last? |
A typical service lasts for about an hour.
|
What is your church denomination? |
While the church is associated with the United Church of Christ (UCC) and the American Baptist Churches (ABC), the people who attend Stratford Street United Church have varied denominational backgrounds, and regardless of your background, all are welcome.
|
Can I receive the sacrament of communion? |
Yes. Regardless of your religious background or affiliation, all are welcome to attend and to participate in church activities, including communion. There is also a gluten-free option available for those who are celiac or choose to avoid wheat.
|
Why is communion only served once per month? |
We serve communion on the first Sunday of each month. Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples only once. We have found that monthly communion strikes a nice balance vs. weekly communion that some churches offer.
|
Do you offer Sunday School classes for children? |
Yes. Kids of all ages are welcome to attend Sunday School. We worship together and then all students leave for Sunday School or Confirmation class. There is also a nursery for very young children. There are rocking chairs in the back of the sanctuary for nursing and relaxing with babies.
|
Are my donations to the Stratford Street United Church tax deductible? |
Yes. The Stratford Street United Church is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) organization..
|
How is the church funded? |
The Stratford Street United Church is funded by generous donations from parishioners as well as from an endowment that we have been blessed with.
|
Is there free parking? |
Yes. Street parking is plentiful. Additionally, you can get to the church Monday-Saturday via the #38 bus, and a short walk from the #35,#36, and #37 buses, as well as the Bellevue and Highland commuter rail train stops. The #36 bus runs Sundays every half hour, and our closest stop is West Roxbury Parkway. Please note: local buses #35 and #37 and the Needham commuter rail do not operate on Sundays.
